Seen most prominently throughout the third season of Thomas and Friends, the red-door workshop is one of the more standout background buildings in the show. Eager to attempt capturing the stucco look of the exterior via thick paints, my goal for this project was to simply replicate the prop from the show as best I could. Although it took me three attempts throughout the years, I am now finally satisfied with the end result!

My CAD design of the structure

I unfortunately don't have any photos of it during construction due to it being a quick build, however the general process was as it is for most buildings: it was 3D printed, assembled, painted, roofed, and weathered. However, something I do want to call attention to is the way it was painted. As tried and failed in previous attempts, I was able to achieve the stucco-like texture on the model by dabbing a thick painter's brush in a more viscous white acrylic. I am beyond satisfied with the result, and glad I tried a new technique!
